Building Community & Partnerships.
About BCAP
Building Community and Partnerships (BCAP) is a 501 c 3 nonprofit committed to strengthening individuals, grassroots leaders, and nonprofit organizations through capacity building, resource sharing, direct giving, and cross-sector collaboration.
BCAP was created in response to a reality many communities face: organizations working toward similar goals are often forced into competition for limited resources, while individuals and families navigating poverty struggle to access the support they need in moments of crisis.
BCAP works to close those gaps by mobilizing networks of people, institutions, and community leaders to share resources, coordinate efforts, and develop long-term solutions to systemic challenges.
The Vision
BCAP envisions a future where communities are connected resourced and empowered to solve their own challenge where collaboration replaces competition resources flow more equitably and systemic barriers that keep people trapped in poverty are dismantled.
-
Families in crisis often cannot access immediate financial support.
Small community groups lack the infrastructure to grow and sustain their work.
Nonprofits and community leaders compete for the same limited funding streams.
Systems designed to support people often move too slowly to meet urgent needs.
Structural inequities continue to trap many individuals and families in cycles of poverty.
These challenges require both immediate support and long-term systemic solutions.
BCAP Advances Community Well-being Through Four Interconnected Strategies:
-
BCAP provides direct financial assistance and resource support to individuals and families experiencing urgent economic hardship. Through community-based giving and mutual aid models, BCAP helps close the gap between need and access by delivering support quickly and equitably.
Direct giving can include emergency support for housing stability, food security, health needs, and other urgent financial challenges that traditional systems often fail to address in time.
-
BCAP strengthens the capacity of grassroots organizations, emerging leaders, and small nonprofits by providing mentorship, guidance, and access to shared resources that help expand their impact and sustainability.
-
BCAP intentionally connects organizations, leaders, and institutions that may otherwise work in isolation. By building collaborative networks, BCAP helps communities pool knowledge, funding opportunities, and resources, shifting the culture from competition to collaboration.
-
BCAP convenes a community-centered think tank composed of practitioners, community leaders, researchers, and policy advocates who work together to analyze systemic challenges affecting people living in poverty.
This think tank focuses on:
Identifying structural barriers impacting communities
Elevating lived experiences to inform solutions
Developing innovative policy and programmatic strategies
Bridging the gap between community knowledge and institutional decision-making
Advancing long-term solutions that address root causes of inequality
BCAP Pilot
BCAP is currently partnering on an innovative pilot program designed and led by the Friends Center to support women in building economic stability while addressing Boston’s urgent childcare shortage.
-
Training and licensing support to launch home-based daycare programs
Business development coaching to help women successfully operate their childcare programs
Access to startup resources, including equipment, educational materials, and operational guidance
Network support connecting participants to community organizations and early childhood experts
Equity-building opportunities that help participants move toward long-term financial stability
Boston faces a significant shortage of affordable childcare, while many women, especially mothers, struggle to find stable economic opportunities that allow them to balance work and caregiving.
This pilot program addresses both challenges simultaneously by:
Expanding access to quality early childhood education
Creating entrepreneurship opportunities for women
Building long-term financial pathways for families
Strengthening community-based childcare networks
This pilot reflects BCAP’s core approach: mobilizing networks to create solutions that communities need. By bringing together partners, community leaders, and resource providers, BCAP helps turn collective knowledge and support into real economic opportunities and community solutions. The pilot represents the type of innovative, collaborative work BCAP is committed to scaling solutions that support families today while building stronger, more equitable communities for the future.
“Because of BCAP, I can start my daycare. It’s no way to navigate by yourself. You need a team. Even with a team, sometimes there are struggles. But because of this pilot, I will be able to do so much. I can ask questions. I have the support I need to just be my best self, to take this to another level, to care for children unapologetically. I can love them. I’m happy. And that’s the bottom line.”
